Through Beth’s Eyes

By December 31, 2025 Heather

A year or so ago, I got to meet an artist whose work really connected with me and so much that I was compelled to purchase a piece from our local art gallery.

After buying my second one and declaring I am hooked, I learned we had the same zip code – she lived locally – and I was almost as shocked as i am over how much I wanted to own her paintings.

How rare could that be? Such amazing creator near me. Then we met and her authentic self confirmed that part of the beauty in her painting is the genuine feeling she applies through it.

Aside from my personal family of painters, I hadn’t felt such a connection to artwork that i had to have it to hang in my home, let alone be close enough to meet that person in real life.

This was the first time I met someone through their art. I’ve only known my own family of artists.

I’ve discovered this many times over through many artists now that I’m a member of the Marysville Art League.

This is Beth’s story with me.

Beth has a truly talented way of seeing animals and people – through the eyes I think. I stare at so many and wonder how she captures them.

The way she paints the eyes draws you in to then zoom out to every other meticulous detail to capture what is true before her.

A few months ago, I asked her if I could commission pieces as gifts for a couple truly loved dogs in our lives.

It was a fun process, and created reasons to connect outside of board meetings and gallery events which we also enjoy.

Ad Plug – come to an open featured artists night at the Houston House – you’ll get to hang out with some of the best artists in every medium you can imagine and We. Talk. Shop.

I learn SO much and have so many bucket list mediums to get into and try out and explore. I alway leave inspired, and encouraged. I couldn’t hold a candle to some of these people’s talents and yet they make me feel welcome and supported.

Beth and I discussed sizes, backgrounds, pictures of the pups and their names and personalities. I had fun sneaking around my family’s houses snapping pictures of their dogs in sun lighting and their eyes to let her capture them in her oil mastery.

Through it all she taught me about her technique and approach and encouraged me in my own styles to keep going, sending me pictures of inspiration to my next Sasquatch theme acrylic. It humbling to me that I may be a hobbyist at best, and have such professional skill level make me feel valued. It’s amazing.

Beth is beginning to teach anyone who’d like to learn now and I’m going to take her classes and keep trying to grow my abilities too.

Today she dropped off the second largest painting she’s made to date. A combined portrait of our two beloved dogs – Rosie and Harley.

Beth Loulan, A Marysville treasure, our painter that captures your essence that is uniquely you.

From discovering her art, to meeting her in person, and quickly becoming her admirer and friend.

Thank you Beth. I love your work.

See her paintings and much more at the Marysville Art League in the historic Houston House.
