I try to create every day. It’s rather therapeutic and relaxing, actually. Today I did what the gardening industry calls propagating.
I didn’t know it had a term, I knew I would take plants that are outgrowing their pots and repot it while taking some new grows away and replanting them to start another one.
My Grandma gave me this violet at least 15 years ago. I date it because I know I moved it to Ohio from Iowa nearly 13 years ago and I had it for a couple years prior to that. Must’ve been the trip to visit her in West Virginia when the boys were toddlers so maybe it’s 17 now since I’ve had it, who knows how long she did before me.
I love that this violet she gave me from her house is truly the grandma of violets not only by age but because she’s regrown so many new violet plants over the years and my daughter’s had hers also regrow new ones and has had it for years since I gave her a baby maybe a decade ago?

So yeah, I’ve been doing that propagating stuff and in the last few years I’ve gotten more and more into growing new plants and testing varieties to see what sticks. And so far from indoors to outdoors, I have a few favorites getting old up in this here house of mine.
So today I repotted a few to make new start ups because my thrifted things to put them in are starting to accumulate.
My kids know my patterns, because my oldest son found a couple cool non-pot nick nacks that look perfect for welcoming one for my birthday this past weekend.
So taking a chill Sunday afternoon with 80’s love songs on the Alexa and a kitchen take over commenced.

It all started when I was thinking about all these items, just sitting on thrift store shelves, cluttered together waiting to be adopted for a new purpose or shelf or curio cabinet or wherever.
Like for instance this stein my son brought home. I’m guessing it sat empty on display since Diane possibly earned it on 11-22-2000 and alas, now it’s 2.99 and empty on display at Goodwill.

Diane, I appreciate your achievement of either graduating or acquiring said mug and kept it in mint condition. This Yale stein that I am guessing you never took a drink from as it’s not really practical for that. Probably was displayed somehow until she didn’t want to anymore.
It’s fun to ponder and wonder how it showed up.
Now, slap in a Golden Pothos baby from this big Daddy and we’re in business. New day for Diane.

The Yale plant starting to take root came from this mug my son made in 5th grade art class.

Landon’s art mug-turned-poppa-plant has helped me fill many things over the past couple years.

It’s fun to find something unique or cool or pretty that you probably wouldn’t use for it’s original purpose but now, it’s art. It’s pretty. It’s fitting for a smile.
I think plants do have energy that is cool and adapts to your home over time. I like to think that when I make these plant holders for gifts and friends and sale that it brings fun, joy and love to your home.
At least that’s my intention and why I like to cheer on my whittle plant babies that take off from my cool OG’s.
Here’s what I did today to start anew.

Oh Hey Mrs. Shoe

Not sure what the cage was for but it’s outdoor metal that I painted. I added the weatherproof hanging chain and found a tall votive to add inside for the plant that can go outside for some indirect warm sunshine.
You grow girl.
Sugar bowls and creamers are so cool to make hang out and pretties. I always add sparkly chains to catch that yummy sunshine through those winders.

I can’t tell you the last time I used a gravy boat but this one is so gorgeous that Muh Fern was ready to jump into.

My string of pearls is probably a next favorite to Grandma’s Violet. I think he’s four or five now and just letting it grow to see how long it goes.

It only takes a few inches of a strand or two or three and you’ve got anotha’ one

And anotha’ one

I can keep going. From funky mugs to anything calling out from the shelves to put a plant in it, it’s a fun way to keep a good thing going and growing.
Thanks for reading! I appreciate your time.
Heather

Here’s a newest baby from Grandma Violet.

Thanks to my group that came together for an impromptu awesome evening of dinner and good times. I woke up so ready to do cool stuff. My three kids and husband and family and friends are just so great. I wish we could all be together across all states and towns #WirtzWorld all the time but I’ll take what handfuls I can get when I can. Man I am so fortunate and full of gratitude for so much in all facets of my life.
