Painting with Intention – Oh Hey Bigfoot

Why I Paint Sasquatch & The Truth-Seeking Theory

I paint Sasquatch as a metaphor for the pursuit of truth—especially the kind that feels elusive, intimidating, or even “big and hairy.”

Sasquatch represents the mysteries we often avoid because they challenge our comfort zones. Through art, I explore the idea that truth exists whether we acknowledge it or not, and that seeking it requires curiosity, courage, and an open mind.

Each painting is a reminder that discovery isn’t about proving myths or chasing legends—it’s about embracing the unknown and daring to look deeper, even when the answers aren’t easy.

I have to add how much fun this is. Truly. Picking up a brush again after years of not was a challenge for myself within itself.

I didn’t expect to laugh so much. Literally. Giggly with delight as I paint his fingernails or his latest expression.

Pushing myself with each one to try new technique. Try to improve my line work (Ugh I am so impatient with lines!)

I enjoy putting him in every day situations as well as classic art – as my way of saying the truth is always there when you seek it. And perhaps he’s just like us and only misunderstood.

When I reflect on all the paintings I’ve attempted of Bigfoot since I started in 2021, I’ll show you the ones that made me laugh out loud the hardest.

I think there is something with experiencing emotion while creating something artistic from scratch.

Creation is being vulnerable already. Yet so therapeutic at the same time because when I am in the midst of art, I’m within myself.

I don’t think about jobs, bills, or the future or the past. I’m just within that exact moment and it’s me putting something out there that will last long after I am gone.

When others look and comment on my paintings, I see smiles and even chuckles from them – which confirms my thought that the feelings you’re experiencing while creating them are carried through to the person connecting with it.

I think of that every time I look at my grandma’s paintings. I miss her and she’s in heaven and a true part of her is right there with me. I can feel her in this. She was proud of trying it and taking classes and doing something for herself at a time when that may not have been traditional. She always was a mover and shaker of her time.

I don’t necessarily know exactly why Sasquatch became my thing, it started as one Starry Night of digging out my paints and saying let’s go for it.

A dozen or so later, it just keeps going. Maybe it’s all the support from friends and family and my kids that keeps it going.

Maybe its the parallel of reality and my constant need to discern what is real and what is not.

Either way I can’t seem to shake it, and then I think why should I?

It sure is fun.

We can all use fun in the seeking of truth, purpose and why we’re all here together at this very moment.

Here’s to finding Bigfoot.
